#GivingTuesday and Healthy Packs

By Andrew Schneider

Black Friday. Small Business Saturday. Cyber Monday.
You can’t escape these commercials or the hype. But this season, we want to highlight a special day you might not have heard of: Giving Tuesday.
At Ideas Collide, we think it is incredibly important to remember how this is the season of giving. Giving Tuesday was created to bring people together all around the world as we celebrate generosity.
We love to give, not only during this season. Throughout the year, Ideas Collide donates our time, energy, money and services to multiple charities including: Junior Achievement, Phoenix Children’s Hospital and Little Kids Rock. But this Giving Tuesday, we highlighted Healthy Packs, a charity close to our hearts.
Despite Scottsdale’s median income of over 0,000, there are thousands of hungry children who qualify for the Federal Program for free or reduced lunch at our elementary schools. Due to a variety of circumstances, many of these children don’t have enough food for the weekends.
This is where Healthy Packs comes in. Teachers and parents both came up with the idea of distributing packs of healthy foods for students that qualify for free and reduced lunch for the weekend. For many children, this is the only reliable source of nutritious food. And it makes a world of difference. A teacher in Mesa commented that the community’s weekend backpack program helps, because, “Not only are the students more excited to come to school, but they have more energy and are not as sad.”
This Giving Tuesday, consider giving a small portion of your shopping budget or Black Friday savings to Healthy Packs. A simple donation of sponsors a child with weekend meals for a month, whereas a donation of 0 sponsors a child for a semester, and so on. 100% of donations to Healthy Packs are used to feed hungry children.
